2026|Rêves échangés à l’ombre du vent
Festival Off Avignon, France
Venue: Théâtre ISLE 80, Avignon
Performance period: 4–25 July 2026
Performers:
Sun Li-Tsuei
Chen Shu-Ching
Director / Choreographer:Sun Li-Tsuei
The work combinesContemporary Dance × Physical Theatre × Visual Theatre × Traditional Chinese Arts
The performance explores the relationship between wind, dreams, shadows, breath and existence through an extremely minimalist stage language.
A long roll of paper becomes a projection surface, a screen for shadows and a living material. A swing introduces suspended movement and oscillation, while deep metallic sounds create an almost ritualistic atmosphere.
Chen Shu-Ching plays a central role in the work as the embodiment of the wind.
Her movement gradually transforms the relationship between the human body, space, light, shadow and breath. The choreography is characterized by extreme slowness and precision, with movements of the hands and wrists recalling the gestures of Chinese calligraphy.
French theatre critic Ruth Martinez described Chen Shu-Ching as:
“Chen Shu-Ching, incarnation du vent.”
“Chen Shu-Ching, the embodiment of the wind.”
The review particularly praised the physical precision of the performers and observed that even breath itself becomes part of the stage writing.
The performance ultimately invites audiences to slow down, experience an unfamiliar sense of time and enter a poetic and contemplative space where:
“La respiration devient danse.”
“Breath becomes dance.”
